Warriors on the Hardwood
This is Ted. I'd hoped to have this photo last in the posting, but blogger is sort of being difficult today. (Maybe it is just the operator). Anyway - the thing of interest here is Ted's stance and positioning: knees bent, head up, arms spread, weight on the balls of his feet so he can quickly move in any direction, and most important, a flat and powerful spine! Ted has been a defensive specialist in basketball all the years he has played: He is short, not real quick, not a great shot, tends to foul out of games, but can still contribute a lot on the basketball court with his fierce tenacity and defense. He loves blocking out the biggest guy on the other team to fight for rebounds.
This is Ted's team: St. Pius X Cadet B (8th grade) - They finished the regular season undefeated, including winning the holiday tourney. This was after their last game that they will ever play at St. Pius. Ted actually made two 3-point shots in a row - he went out with some style! They start their end of season tournament this evening at Christ-the-King.
Tori on the sidelines during one of her four games this weekend in Louisville. A tournament with teams from all over the midwest, they won by an average of 30 points and teams averaged only 11 points against them. Although Ted's twin, Tori is the tallest on her team and has a pretty good shot. She acts like a coach on the floor because she always know where all five players are supposed to be for every play.
And so, the most salient thing from this? Tori's team, Indy Lady Elite (based out of Southport) wins with outstanding coaching, girls who sincerely like each other and play well together (teamwork and no egos). They don't practice 4 or 5 days a week like their competition, but in the one day a week that they practice, they are focused on what they are trying to accomplish each and every minute of practice, and they go full out, hard as they can, all the time.
Our children offer beautiful lessons for us all the time. It's a blessing to precious to ignore.
Peace...
